Job Description

FTS is seeking a Drainage Engineer for a company in Baton Rouge to assist with planning and design for a variety of projects including highway improvement projects, bridge rehabilitation and replacement, engineering services during construction, storm water conveyance projects, hydraulic modeling and a variety of other related services.
Essential Functions:
Provide project management on select hydraulic projects and/or task level management for complex roadway design projects that involve surface drainage.
Perform various tasks from developing hydrologic and hydraulic models, to preparing plans, specifications and estimates, data collection, and field work.
Perform roadway drainage design and calculations and related hydrologic design in support of transportation projects.
Work with design team, environmental staff and regulatory agencies to support the permitting process for various projects.
Prepare hydrological and hydraulic calculations and modeling, assist with preparing technical reports, and design drawings.
Conduct field work and field data collection, documentation, and data evaluation.
Prepare drainage designs and perform hydraulic and surface water modeling/ storm water management analyses considering control of water quality.
Use knowledge of regulatory requirements to delivery technically appropriate work necessary to successfully complete project.
Broad knowledge of all elements of the design of highway transportation facilities, including roadway elements, hydrology and hydraulics, structures, and traffic related items.
Provide technical assistance to designers related to hydraulic engineering design and detailing


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, regulators, and colleagues.
Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
Must be highly detail oriented and possess excellent organizational skills
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks as assigned
Experience handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
Must be able to work independently and manage time wisely
Maintain and develop technical design skills necessary to complete projects in an effective and timely manner.


Education, Training, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
Pursue professional registrations and other appropriate licenses through ongoing technical training.
